Lamborghini, as you !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , formally announced its new Huracán. Let's all get the pronunciation correct from the start: oo-rah-khan, in English we'll probably say "hoo-rah-khan". Not hurricane. Huracán was a fighting bull famous back in 1879. According to Lamborghini "the fighting bull Huracán of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed was known for his outstanding courage and strong sense of attack." And there can be no doubt the newest Lamborghini will be a fierce competitor when it comes to the time attack.

The car boasts some interesting technology, and I'm not talking about the 12.3" TFT screen, though that will provide the driver with an instrument panel that delivers all car information to the driver, from rev counter to navigation maps and infotainment functions, and can be configured by the driver in different setups. It will probably function a lot like the Nissan GT-R. The tech that interests me more include:

- A hybrid chasis combining aluminum and carbon fibre resulting in a fairly lightweight car at 1422 kg/3134 pounds. It's no Miata, but it's also not heavier than the Gallardo. The hybrid chassis should produce outstanding stiffness for an even more "riding on rails" experience. The continued innovation with carbon fibre at Lamborghini could potentially find its way into everyday Porsches, Audis, and VWs.

- How does a 610 hp V-10 sound? We literally don't know yet, but the it seems like a good thing. It's a pretty good bump up from the Gallardo and will make the Huracán a 200+ mph car. The engine features "Iniezione Diretta Stratificata" (IDS), which is direct and indirect gasoline injections combined. According to Lamborghin this "results in more power and torque with lower fuel consumption and emissions compared with the Gallardo V10 engine." The new 5.2 liter V10 engine delivers a maximum power of 448 kW / 610 HP at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 560 Nm at 6.500 rpm. The top speed of over 325 km/h (201 mph) and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.9 seconds. Lamborghini indicates these specs only scratch the surface of the car's performance. The car also features Stop & Start technology to improve fuel efficiency. I wonder if it will have a defeat switch for this so-called feature? Unfortunately Lamborghini didn't provide a picture of the engine.

- LED everywhere: "by night the Huracán is unmistakably a Lamborghini. Not only are the main headlamps equipped with full LED illumination, but all other light functions also feature state-of-the-art LED technology as a standard feature for the first time in the segment."

- The tranny: "The power of the V10 engine is brought to the road via the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission "Lamborghini Doppia Frizione" (LDF) and fully electronically controlled four-wheel drive system. The different driving modes of the Huracán can be selected via a driving dynamics selector switch in the steering wheel – from traction-oriented on the road to extreme performance on the race track, with three setups of the dynamics system: STRADA, SPORT and CORSA. The different modes ensure extensive modification in road behavior of the Huracán. In particular they influence the set-ups of several systems, such as the gearbox and engine behavior, the sound, the four-wheel-drive system and electronic stability control."

- Ceramic brakes are apparently standard. Take that one off the options list.

The car will be previewed privately over the next few months until its official debut in Geneva. Will it match the success of the Gallardo? Time will tell.

Since Huracán is a Spanish word, the H would be silent so pronunciation would be Ooo-ra-KHAN with emphasis on the final syllable due to the accent mark.

/grammar

It definitely looks the part. I think I like the design more than the Aventador.

I agree. We won't say it like that in English though, but you are correct. Be Spanish, I should've pointed that out.

The Aventador could possibly break the sales record of the Gallardo, so this should be entertaining as hell.

Speaks to the business thought of Lamborghini. They can't get them out fast enough because they want people to have them. Ferrari is happy to reign in production and be picky as hell on who gets their newest kit.

I'm impressed at that 1422kg curb weight. that would mean its lighter than the 458 Italia, only 23kg heavier than the Mclaren 12c and 32kg heavier than the 458 Speciale, all of that with AWD. A RWD version and indeed the Superleggera edition will be pretty nippy.

That is why [we] spanish speaking people spell laughs jaja because our H's are silent, therefore it would just be a a a if we laugh like American's haha

And oodles of naturally aspirated torque.

Interesting thought. Do you think there will be any trickle down of the tech to the rest of the VW Group?

I'm surprised its taken this long for them to get on the magnetic ride tech to begin with, that is something a Cadillac ATS even offers and we all know that started all the way up in their top tier cars.

If anything, this serves to drive down the price of composites since they are being produced so damn much, something that means we might be able to enjoy the German beige that is a carbon celled Jetta in the near future.

My question is,

Will it race?

I can only hope.

You know what? I've done a lot of bitching lately about headlights (I'm looking at you Alfa), but these are nice, clean and subtle.

Approved.

I cannot imagine there wouldn't be a Super Trofeo version at some point, though I would guess it's a bit down the road.

I believe Lamborghini is stopping the production of the Aventador a 4000 units. im probably mistaken thought.

Neat tech and all... but nothing that I can't already find on a Corvette or a BRZ.

Except for the carbon fibre and the fire-breathing V-10.

Corvette has carbon fibre, and the v-10 really doesn't a high tech engine make.

Ah, but the Corvette uses CFRP parts on the body. The advancement here is that the Lamborghini uses it in the chassis. That's the innovation, plus combining it with aluminum. The engine also has innovations with using both Direct Injection and fuel injection.

I like the Corvette and it is incredibly improved, but this is comparing apples to oranges. The Corvette is a sports car, not a super car.

The roof of the corvette is carbon, and that is very much part of the chassis and adds to the rigidity.

Kinja'd!!!

Does the Lamborghini have Carbon fiber suspension?

The Corvette has a rubber coated carbon spring :P

Nah, you've got it right (unless, being Italian, they decide to "forget" to stop production). But still... it takes A LOT to break 14,000 units for a supercar (and the Gallardo was half the price of the Aventador).

I always wondered about this too. My guess was that they avoided it with the Gallardo in order to differentiate the R8 from it. The R8 was the comfortable everyday supercar while the Gallardo was the hard edged supercar.

They probably realized they can't hold out any longer as people that are spending over $200K on a new car want to be able to drive on shitty roads without losing their fillings. My 997 C2 doesn't have PASM and I can't stand driving it when I need to go to LA. The road quality around downtown is horrendous. You literally feel like you're in a third world country when you hit the 5 & 101 interchange near downtown.

Any expensive supercar needs to at minimum have electronic dampers, but ideally it should come with magnetic ride tech or at least an option to get that tech.

Agree. I loved the 2009 and up Gallardo headlights. This car took the same idea and multiplied it by two. It looks great.

I can't wait to see this car in person. There are some details that look a little weird to me in the pics. But I know not to judge a car until you've seen it in the flesh. Pictures don't do supercars justice. The R8 looks a bit pudgy in the pics but I love it in real life.

The RWD version could end up being one of the best cars ever.

Italian looks + German influenced build quality + Audi DCT + light RWD setup.

Me gusta. Me gusta very much.
